MOTHER OF THE YEAR

STATE YOUNG MOTHER
Honors exemplary young mothers as peer role models who promote our Purpose. A Young Mother is selected to serve on the AMI National Board.
CULTURAL ARTS COMPETITION AND EXHIBIT
Encourages mothers to develop their talents and to teach, uplift and share these talents with children and others.
MOTHER MENTORING
Experienced mothers are paired with other mothers to provide practical, one-on-one mothering skills. Support is given to these mothers to help them meet their families' specific needs.
FIFTH GRADE ESSAY CONTEST
Calling All Fifth Graders
An annual statewide 5th grade essay contest. This is an opportunity for fifth grade students to sharpen their writing skills while honoring their mothers. The subject of the essay is What My Mother Means to Me. The contest is open to all fifth grade students in a classroom or home school setting.
Winning State entries will be entered in the national American Mothers Fifth Grade Essay Competition. The national winners are announced at the annual AMI convention. The national 1st. place essay winner receives $300, 2nd. place receives $200, and 3rd. place receives $100.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AGAINST PORNOGRAPHY
Alerts and educates families about the harmful effects of offensive media. Also visit www.ccv.org to download booklet "What one mom can do...in the fight against pornography."
MOTHERS AGAINST ABUSE
Publishes and distributes booklets that help safeguard children from abuse. "Be Strong" has been created for the American Mothers, Inc. project MAA-Mothers against Abuse.
The booklet was designed by a young woman in Lincoln, NE. and a grant has made possible the printing of it and free distribution to interested schools. It is intended for middle school age girls in 6th, 7th and 8th grades.
ABC QUILTS (At-Risk Baby Crib Quilts)
Creates quilts for children at risk. Many chapters of AMI participate in this program to make quilts for children from newborn to age six who are abandoned, HIV-infected, or suffer from pre-natal exposure to alcohol or drugs. The quilts provide love and comfort for the children and increase awareness for quilt makers and the public.
ACADEMY FOR MOTHERS
Encourages and recognizes the personal development of mothers with our web-based curriculum. AMI is excited to offer Academy for Mothers, an on-line school that awards degrees in motherhood and encourages the development of mothers in their home and with their families. The mission statement our Academy is:
To strengthen the Mother, Family and Home with credit awarded for her progress in the AMI Academy Curriculum of Accomplishment.

LITERACY
Supports increased literacy at home and in the community through education, example, and tutoring.
