Cultural Arts Competition ,
The annual Cultural Arts competition and exhibits primary purpose is to enable women artists, writers, and musicians in the state of NH to bring their work before a jury and to be critiqued and art and writing exhibited in a public place. Winners may elect to participate in the national cultural arts event. Winners from NH have on many occasions been featured in the national publication, American Mother magazine.

2008 Winners

The 2008 Cultural Arts event (competition, exhibit, and reception) began in August with a Call for Entries. Entries were exhibited and judged in October at the Bedford Public Library, and the reception was October 27 at the library. The event includes the major areas of Art, Literature, and Music with multiple subcategories within them.

First place winners were:

ART: Photography - Mary White for "Giggles." Mary is from Londonderry.

ART: Craft--Fiber arts - Paula Burpee (Merrimack) for the quilt "Garden of Tranquility"

ART: Computer Graphics - Alhan Irwin (Nashua), "Intimate Knowledge"

ART: Mixed Media - Heather Harvey's "Empty Nest 1,2,3." Heather is from Dalton.

ART: Pastel - Judith Doughty (West Nottingham), "Noon Nap"

LITERATURE: Essay - Francine S. Hall's "Motherschool." Fran is from Exeter.

LITERATURE: Poetry - Amy Ray for "Eleven Minutes" Amy is from Rye.

LITERATURE: Short story - Anne Kelsey's "Eye of the Beholder" from Windham.

MUSIC: Instrumental (piano) - Jayne M. Young from Amherst.

MUSIC: Vocal - Jennifer Erdody from Milford.

All qualified mothers living in the State of New Hampshire are eligible to enter the annual "Cultural Arts Competition and Exhibit." Entry forms and information will be available for 2009 on this website in August 2009.
